Brigade History

Lenah Valley Brigade is a totally volunteer Brigade.  It is a station of the Main Hobart Fire Brigade and it's responsiblity is primarily bushfire incidents on the urban fringe of Hobart covering the foothills of Mount Wellington.

The Brigade consists of 18 members and has 2 Light Toyota tankers.  Because of the Brigades bushfire role it is also often tasked to assist in major bushfires anywhere in Tasmania.

Brigade History

The first recorded meeting of the Lenah Valley Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at Station 2, Moonah on the 20th August 1985.  The initial meeting was chaired by Mr E. Percival and the foundation members who attended were

Mr C Quon
Mr M Styles
Mr M Wilkie
Mr J Wilson
Mr J Wright

with 2 Junior Members C Percival and T Wilkie

At this stage the Lenah Valley Brigades 4x4 Tanker was stationed at Mr S Hammond's residence and training and meetings were conducted at the Moonah station.  The following officer bearers were elected:
1st Officer  Mr K Donovan
2nd Officer  Mr M Wilkie
3rd Officer  Mr D Devereaux

Following an extensive period of lobbying and fundraising and after a lot of blood sweat and tears by memebrs the Brigade building was formally opened in March 1987.

Interesting Note

It is interesting to Note that as of 2007 there are still 6 of the original founding members active within the Brigade.  These being:
